How Soon Should You Ceramic Coat A New Car

Why Early Is Better

A coating locks in whatever the paint looks like when it is applied. On a car that has never been washed poorly, that means locking in a factory finish with only a light polish needed first.

Wait twelve months of brush washes and dry wiping, and you now need correction before you can coat. That is more time, more cost, and clear coat permanently removed that you will never get back.

Does New Paint Need To Cure First

This is the most common concern and it mostly comes from confusion with repainted panels.

Factory paint is baked and fully cured before the car leaves the production line. It does not need additional curing time and can be coated immediately.

Fresh paint from a body shop is different. That does need time to fully outgas, typically measured in weeks to a couple of months depending on the shop and product. If your car has had panel work, mention it, because the timing changes.

Dealer Swirls Are Real

Cars are washed at the dealership before handover, frequently with whatever is to hand and under time pressure. It is very common for a brand new car to arrive with light swirling already in the paint.

This is exactly why Popz inspects under correction lighting before applying anything. If there are swirls, they either come out first or they get sealed under the coating for years.

The Ideal Timeline

  1. 1Take delivery and avoid letting anyone wash it
  2. 2Book protection for that week or the one after
  3. 3Have the paint inspected under proper lighting
  4. 4Light polish or correction as needed, then coating
  5. 5Follow the curing guidance in your written aftercare guide
  6. 6Set up safe washing or a maintenance schedule from the start

What If It Has Been A Few Months

Not a problem, and definitely not a reason to keep putting it off. It simply means slightly more preparation. A car at six or twelve months usually needs a proper decontamination and a light correction rather than just a polish.

The cost of waiting rises gradually rather than suddenly, so the best time is always as soon as you are ready.
