How To Protect New Car Paint In Melbourne

What Actually Damages New Paint Here
Australian UV
The most persistent threat and the slowest to show. UV gradually oxidises clear coat, which is what turns deep colours flat and chalky over years. Reds and blacks show it first.
Bird Droppings
Acidic and fast. Left on hot paint in summer sun, a dropping can etch a permanent mark into clear coat within hours. This is the single most common cause of avoidable damage to new cars.
Tree Sap
If you park under trees, sap bonds hard and gets progressively more difficult to remove safely the longer it sits.
Industrial Fallout And Brake Dust
Tiny iron particles that embed in paint and wheels. They oxidise in place, which is what causes the tiny rust coloured specks you see on white cars in particular.
The Dealership Wash
Frequently overlooked and genuinely significant. Plenty of new cars arrive already carrying light swirls from being washed at the dealership before handover.
The First Few Weeks Matter Most
Protecting a car in the first weeks is both cheaper and more effective, because the paint needs minimal preparation. Wait a year and you are paying for correction before you can protect anything.
The Protection Options
Ceramic Coating
The most effective option for chemical and UV protection. Popz packages start at Ceramic Standard, with Ceramic Gold adding wheel and glass coating. Up to $500 off currently applies to anything booked.
Paint Protection Film
The only thing that genuinely stops stone chips, because it is a physical urethane layer. Popz does not offer film, so if chip protection is your priority you want a PPF specialist. Shabz will tell you that rather than sell you a coating to solve a problem it cannot solve.
Dealer Paint Protection
Usually a sealant applied quickly on the lot with a significant margin, sold at the moment you are least able to compare it. It is not the same product or process as a professionally applied coating.
What To Do In The First Month
- 1Do not let the dealership wash it again if you can avoid it
- 2Book protection within the first few weeks, before the first bad wash
- 3Have the paint inspected under proper lighting first
- 4Keep a quick detailer and microfibre in the boot for droppings
- 5Never use an automatic brush wash, starting now
- 6Learn the two bucket method, or put the car on a maintenance schedule
Protecting It Without Losing A Day
Popz is mobile across Melbourne, so protection can be booked for the week you take delivery without you giving up another day. The set-up is fully enclosed and climate controlled, so the coating goes on in studio conditions at your address.
